One Voice

Stone footprints

Alberta has taken some sound beatings over the past few weeks. Without barely a drop of rain for months since winter breakup, suddenly the heavens opened up and the floodwaters rose. Four Lac La Biche canoeists entered the wilderness a few weeks ago, but because of flooding up near Fort Mac, only 2 have returned. The other two have not been found, and we are mourning the cease & desist of the search. Southeran Alberta has confirmed 3 dead and many homes destroyed.
One often repeated comment has caught my attention, not for its insight but rather its silliness:
"This kind of thing just doesn't happen in Canada!"
Don't be foolish. Of course it does! Canadians are immune to Nature? Since when?
The sad thing is, like the rest of the world, natural disasters often make way for profiteering through hiked prices on needed goods all the way through to trafficking (drugs, arms, people). Our most vulnerable out on the streets or held in bondage are more at-risk of disappearing during emergencies… no one's looking and suddenly they vanish. Lord have mercy…
On the other hand, we are often witnesses to some of the greatest acts of Christ's kingdom many of us have never seen before: open homes, the breaking of bread, comforting one another, searching for the loves ones of others, asking again and again:

"How can we help?"

The Wailin' Jennys 'One Voice' is most definitely a song from the Underground, rising up through the waters… for "this is the sound of all of us."
"One Voice" ~The Wailin' Jennys
This is the sound of one voice
One spirit, one voice
The sound of one who makes a choice
This is the sound of one voice

This is the sound of voices two
The sound of me singing with you
Helping each other to make it through
This is the sound of voices two

This is the sound of voices three
Singing together in harmony
Surrendering to the mystery
This is the sound of voices three

This is the sound of all of us
Singing with love and the will to trust
Leave the rest behind it will turn to dust
This is the sound of all of us

This is the sound of one voice
One people, one voice
A song for every one of us
This is the sound of one voice
This is the sound of one voice
