International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

"No one shall be held in slavery or in servitude".

Today is the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery. As declared by the United Nations, we commemorate the world's 'out-whisper' that is growing into a rightful outcry that we will not accept people being bought, sold, abused, used, forced, or in any way treated as merchandise as opposed to the human beings they are.

We see in the history books that the adoption of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (resolution 317(IV)) occured on December 2, 1949. In remembrance of the Convention, December 02, 1985 saw the proclamation of the World of the Abolition of Slavery and All It's Forms, which in 1995, was changed to the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery.
